Rein Care Instructions

Keeping the Non-Slip going strong:

  • *Wiping down the rein with a baby wipe prior to riding can keep light arena dust from settling and improve the non-slip function.
  • *Temperature can alter the feel of the reins.  The warmer they are, the softer they will be and the more non-slip. Your hand generally provides enough warmth to get the rein to the optimal performance temperature.
  • *Steer clear of chemicals!  Show Sheen and some fly sprays will eventually cause mild stiffening of the edges of the foam.  If you are using chemicals please rinse your hands before riding and you will greatly improve the longevity of your reins.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS: We strongly recommend using all-natural  ThinLine Cleaners. It’s completely safe for the ThinLine foam, and does an excellent job of cleaning the leather too! Simple dish soap also works and baby wipes are handy for a quick clean up!

Please avoid leather care products; they contain oil which is damaging to ThinLine. While it looks and feels like leather, it is a special, nonslip, pressure distributing foam. For conditioning the leather, we recommend using a paste-like conditioner (like Horseman’s One Step) so that you can control the application, avoiding contact with the ThinLine.

Please be aware that leather care products and chemicals such as Show Sheen and fly spray can cause the foam to harden.

The ThinLine reins are a true game changer! I ride many horses a day and these reins immediately stopped the pain I was getting in my knuckles. I’ve recommended them to multiple customers who have arthritis and they all love the reins. Every bridle in my barn has these reins!

Love the feel these reins give me. I am so much softer with my horse and he never “gets away”

Katie Weeks My horse and I love our Ultra Thin Line pad. He’s such a “Princess and the Pea” horse but he has a bad back due to his old ill fitting saddle, but now that he has one that fits him he’s picky with pads that go underneath, and we’ve tried Ogilvy and Sheepskin pads and this is the only pad he actually accepts and it’s done wonders for his back, and mine! Swear by ThinLine. Now have a pair of your ThinLine reins and couldn’t be happier with them. Not only do them help me as a rider due to old cubital and carpal tunnel issues, but my connection to my horse is so much cleaner! Thank you for your wonderful products!!

Ed Penziner: It’s interesting to me that many riders use thick pads under their Western Saddles, while most riders use relatively thin pads under their English saddles. ThinLine makes great products. I love the ThinLine Reins. Very comfortable to the hand, and doesn’t get slippery when the horse sweats.

Kim Gentry: Thank you ThinLine for the awesome products. We use Ultra ThinLine pads everyday on all of our horses as well as ThinLine boots, bell boots(they really last!), reins, shimable Comfort pads, Trifecta, and Contender pads! A really great line of products that helps horse and rider.

I live how these reins feel in my arthritic hands. They seemed thick at first but as they warmed to my hands they seemed to compress and mold to them. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because I find the leather parts of the reins to be poor quality and extremely dry. I gave my reins several treatments of leather moisturizer to soften them.

Fantastic reins! They give a nice soft feel in the hand. They are perfect on both snaffle and double bridles! The reins also give a great grip with rain and heavy sweat. The leather is really soft and doesn’t rub your favourite pair of gloves. The ThinLine ine component gives the suppleness of rubber reins but alleviates the vibration that is often associated. I recommend them to everyone! By far my favourite reins.

Thinline Reins are by far the best out there. I love how you have a consistent steady contact and feel with the horses mouth. Easy to hold and no slipping through your fingers.

These are the only reins I am comfortable in WITHOUT gloves…I feel a much gentler connection to my horse even when he spooks and I have to move my hands quicker and firmer. He comes back much faster and smoother, the reins are amazing, not to mention my arthritic thumbs seem to be less noticeable. Love them!

I have been using ThinLine reins for several years. I have them on my jumping bridle and my dressage bridle. I have not had to replace them yet. They are FABULOUS for everyday riding and they have NOT SLIPPED when wet — very important!! I have used rubber reins for jumping for many, many years, and these are the best I have ever had.

I bought my reins a few months ago but only installed them today – so sorry I wasted all that time – I LOVE them. My arthritic fingers are thanking me!

I used to have problems with my reins slipping through my fingers on cross country, my mum brought me the ThinLine reins and they are perfect. They have excellent grip, they are great quality, and are extremely soft and comfortable to hold. I love these and would highly recommend!!

These are the best reins I have ever bought! I have very small hands so keeping my grip is sometimes tough. I have always used rubber reins but they wear out so easily and I’ve had blisters from when my horse would be very heavy on the front. The Thinline reins are super soft and yet so grippy. They are a bit thicker, which I thought would be harder to keep a grip on, but it was the opposite – they are so easy! I LOVE them and will never use anything else!

I would highly recommend these! They are so nice and easy on your hands! I own Gypsy Vanners and they are heavy on the bit and these reins help so much! So much grip and padding!❤️

I received my first set of these reins as a gift several years ago, and they are just wonderful!! Completely different then anything else out there! Since then, I’ve bought another pair for my dressage show bridle, and plan to get another set for jumping. They just feel so nice in your hands, and help me to have a softer feel with my contact!!!

Questions and answers of the customers

  1. A Thank you for your question! The difference is in the grade of leather. The Indian leather reins are made with a high quality bridle leather and the Italian reins are made with a higher grade, premium quality bridle leather.
  2. A Thanks for your question! The reins with stops are only made in imported Indian leather and come in 48", 54", and 60". The English leather reins are made without stops, available with stud hook and buckle ends, also in 48",54", and 60".
  3. A Thanks for your question! It refers to the way that the reins attach to the bit. The stud hook is the traditional method, while the buckle ends allow for easier bit or rein changes.
