This is hands down one of the best products we do.  You will feel all the sensations of your horses’ back muscles while enjoying all the shock absorption and non slip features of the trademark ThinLine foam.  Balance, comfort and security can all be yours in this bareback pad.  Because the ride is so improved we do not offer stirrups with this pad.  You will find yourself sitting correctly, developing great core strength while finding a close but quiet communication with your horse.  Equines love this bareback pad- they feel unified with their rider.  So go ahead, it is time to have the ride of your life.

Kayleen Diane Johnson I’m a huge fan of ThinLine! My son is learning to ride independently this summer in my ThinLine comfort plus bareback pad & I am also starting a young mare – that same bareback pad is the first piece of equipment she’s ever felt cinched on. This piece of equipment is priceless to me!

Elaine Lockhead Costello, as much as I adore your products – my favorite part is reading these kinds of articles about you. In the midst of unemployment as a single mother, I began handcrafting artisan style bitless bridles. With encouragement of family and friends – as well as – the inspiration I find in hearing your story, I took a huge leap of faith and started my own tack company. I just wanted to let you know what a positive impact following your company has had on me as I carve a niche for my own unique products & strive to build a name for my young up and coming brand. With great sincerity, thank you!

I purchased the bareback pad to help with my balance during riding. This is by far, the most comfortable bareback pad I have ever sat on. I didn’t feel a need to shift my weight off balance to get comfortable, and never felt like I was hurting or making my horse feel uncomfortable. We had a loved ride and I can’t wait to use this pad again. Excellent purchase!

This bareback pad is perfect. I finally have the comfortable ride and excellent contact with my horse that I desired. I can also add that my horse moves more freely! I have recommended this product to many of my riding friends.

I ride a couple of horses bareback–one who is 28 with a prominent spine and one who is very round. I use a thick orthopedic pad as well with the older horse, but it was causing trouble with a standard bareback pad without wither relief. When riding the round mare with a regular bareback pad I would be sitting on the front edge of the pad (usually as it slid off the side!) within a few minutes of mounting. With the ThinLine’s shaped wither and correct girth placement (and breastcollar attachment!) I have a great bareback pad that MY sensitive back agrees with that stays PUT on both horses! Love it!

My 18 hand Friesian has rather tall withers, and finding a bareback pad that would fit him properly was a journey of six years. Everything else we tried failed miserably to give us a good ride, until I found this pad at a local saddlery last fall. Not only is it comfortable for my horse and myself, but it fits other horses beautifully as well. When I walk up to my horse with this pad in my hands, he responds happily, because it is one of our favorite things to do together.

Finally got to try my new pad on my 16.3 hand, high-withered mare. I. LOVE. IT. I’ve been riding bareback since Day One, but found it about impossible with this horse due to the prominence of her withers. This pad was exactly what I wanted, providing comfort for both of us! It maintains the bareback feel that I’d hoped for. Now I have another option for enjoying my mare for a quick or informal hack other than saddling up. I’m very pleased with this, my first Thin Line purchase.

I absolutely love my Thinline bareback pad! I’ve used another type of pad but I felt like I was slipping– not with this one though! It provides a nice grip while riding bareback. More importantly, though, is that I feel good about riding my horse bareback with the shock absorption to help my mare’s back while I ride. 🙂

Good weight distribution. Does not perform well in heat and hills, slips all over the place on a yoked athlete of a horse. Would be perfect if the girth attachment didn’t direct pressure across the withers and recommend a re-design with wool felt bottom and better placement of girth attachment.

      Hi Ally,

Hands down the best bareback pad around. Usually to get comfort on a high withered horse you need thick fluffiness, which sacrifices security and stability. With my Thinline pad, I’m completely comfortable on my shark-finned OTTB, and secure feeling enough to jump over 3′ courses!

Questions and answers of the customers

  1. A Thank you for your question! The waffle weave material is made of neoprene and is on both the underside of the bareback pad and the girth.

  3. A Hi and thank you for your question! The contoured topline of this bareback pad provides great wither clearance for high withered horses.
  4. A Yes! The Ultra ThinLine performance foam along the top of the pad provides comfort for you and your horse and its grippy surface helps you have a more secure seat. D-Rings at the front of the pad also allow you to add a grab strap.
  5. A Hi! This pad is designed to give that great close contact, bareback feel while offering comfort, security, and back protection for you and your horse. It truly is the ultimate bareback pad for riders of all sizes! So if you've already been riding bareback, it's going to give you a way better ride and keep you and your horse much more comfortable!
  6. A Thanks for your question! This pad is so easy to maintain! Simply hose off thoroughly on both sides of pad and hang to dry in the shade. Machine washing is not recommended.
  7. A Thanks for your question! This pad is designed with a contoured topline and a slight cutback at the wither. Fitting a wide variety of conformations, it offers the ultimate in bareback comfort for both horse and rider. As with all ThinLine products, there is a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so feel free to give it a try!
  8. A Thanks for your question! The included girth is not attached to the pad. The pad has long billets and will work with any short girth/cinch with a single buckle.
  9. A Thank you for your question! This pad is constructed with both horse and rider comfort in mind. It is made of faux suede with foam padding and a waffle weave neoprene under-layer. However, the true magic comes from the Ultra ThinLine material covering the entire seat area. Superior shock absorption and weight distribution are provided by the Ultra ThinLine, making any additional pads unnecessary.
  10. A Thanks for your question! If you normally jump bareback, you should be able to jump in this pad. This pad is designed to offer comfort and support for all bareback riding.
  11. A Thank you for your question! This pad is designed to be used alone. The Ultra ThinLine added across the top of the pad, in addition to the padded faux suede body, and neoprene waffle weave bottom provide excellent protection for your horse's back. If you have a specific fit issue you'd like help with, please call our office at 888-401-9101.
  12. A This pad fits a wide range of shapes and sizes. Its contoured topline design and grippy, neoprene waffle weave bottom ensure that it will stay in place. It comes with a 30 day satisfaction guarantee, so feel free to give it a try!
  13. A Thank you for your question! The billet straps are attached to the sides of the pad, unlike the bareback pads with the single piece girth strap that goes over the withers.
  14. A We do not currently offer a grab strap, but any standard size will attach to the D-rings on the front of the pad.
  15. A Thanks for your question! It's tough to answer based on your horse's weight alone, because conformation can vary so much. The girth for this pad is 24" and the side billets are 16" long from the first hole to the last. This gives a total girth reach of 56".
  16. A Thanks for your question! The new Comfort Bareback pad is made with textured Ultra ThinLine, providing more grip than the previous version, and the stitching was also removed for a better feel.
  17. A Thanks for your question! This pad has D-rings at the front and rear so that it's easy to attach gear, but does not have a way to attach stirrups. The ThinLine material is so grippy that you may find that you don't need them!
  18. A Thanks for your question! Any cinch with a single buckle and a length similar to the original, should work for this pad. We also sell replacement cinches for $20. Give us a call @ 888-401-9101 to order.
  19. A Thanks for your question! This bareback pad fits a wide range of horses, but is likely too large for your mini. The spine length on this pad is 23" long and the girth would likely be oversized as well.
  20. A Yes, we have replacement girths available for the bareback pad. Please call us at 888-401-9101 to order. Thanks!
